  1. This was always just posturing from Mike Ashley. It’s obvious that if House of Fraser closed that store, there’s no other tenant going to take it on, it would be void for years, the Landlord was always going to come back to the table and renegotiate.

It’s just a shame Ashley is such a cunt he’s happy to make a lot of people think they’re going to lose their jobs, just to save a few quid.

  2. While it’s good that the cost base has been reduced, it just delays the inevitable if they don’t bring people back through the doors. They need to make it more of a destination, not just a big shop that’s more expensive, and less convenient, than buying online.

  3. Genuine question as someone not from Manchester – did it used to be good? As of now it’s easily one of the most old fashioned, poorly managed stores in the city centre.

I’ve never fathomed how they’ve stayed open this long with M&S, Harvey Nichols, and Selfridges just down the road doing quality/price better.

  4. You want to make that part of Manchester more popular, with better shops and more customers?

Pedestrianise Deansgate. Stop fucking around and get cars off it. It’s a diesel-choked sewer that everyone avoids.
